The images below were shot on the Kodak Funsaver Disposable Camera (roll 1).

I will speak more about my experience down below…

KODAK GOLD 800 (DISPOSABLE)

In 2023, I was due to be travelling to South Korea for the first time. It would also be my first time in another country on my own. I thought I would test out 35mm Film for the first time and if I enjoyed the results and the experience, then I would then purchase a camera while on my travels. I went into Snappy Snaps in Exeter and I purchased a Kodak Funsaver Disposable Camera. I only remember these from past holidays, my family would always bring a disaposable camera with us. It was usually one of those waterproof ones that you take in the pools with you but this would be the first time in years and years and this time I was in control of the images. After purchasing the camera, I met up with my friend and we went out shooting. Due to the nature of this being disposable, I haven’t edited these images. I the only thing i’ve done was correct them so they are straight. I haven’t touched the colours, I haven’t added contrast. I haven’t done anything. Apart from the crop and rotation, these are exactly how the Lab sent them.
I think that is very important especially wondering these are disposable images from a disposable camera. These are not meant to be professional. These are meant to be fun. What you get is what you get. In this day and age, a lot of time goes into editing and making them look “better” but going forward, any images taken on a disposable camera will be left untouched. Why, in the digital age, does so much time go to editing, making images pop, or look better. Photos from a disposable camera are not really meant to be touched in my opinion and you may not agree with me and that’s fine. Although the local lab doesn’t send Tiff files and they only send Jpegs, that is perfectly fine for images such as these. You take the picture, get it developed and then upload the picture. It’s very easy and I feel relaxed and happy that this is one roll that I don’t need to spend countless hours on making it “suitable” for my portfolio.
Why don’t you try this? If there are any photographers reading this, if you spend a long time day after day, editing your images, only choosing the perfect ones, then why don’t you try a disposable camera. Don’t spend time on them editing them and colour correcting them. You might enjoy it and find it relaxing as I do. All in all, I really like these images, although this was in 2023 and it’s 2025 now I want to try a disable camera again because I enjoyed the experience and the images that I got back. I haven’t shot one since but I think I will need to.
