The images below were shot on the Contax RTS (roll 54).

I will speak more about my experience down below…

KODAK ULTRAMAX 400 (Shot at ISO 100)

I was asked to take photos for Pippin's Community Centre in Axminster. I thought it was a good idea and so I agreed. The images will be used to promote Pippins and hopefully bring more people in. I thought I should take some photos of the garden and the main room with the kitchen to show that it is peaceful and nice and quiet. Pippin's is a very safe space to be in and they have helped me a lot. I was really happy to be asked to take some photos for them
I quite like these images. I shot these at ISO 100 instead of 400. It was partly a mistake and I only realised this after I finished the roll but I am definitely glad that I did make that mistake. Rating the film at ISO 100 means more light is coming in. Film likes a lot of light and so at the end of the day, if you have no choice, it’s better to overexpose than to underexpose and I am going to do that with most of my films going forward.
What would be good going forward, is if I get a wide angle lens for either my Contax or another camera as I was kind of limited having only a 50mm lens on my Contax. It would also be good to get a flash. Although saying this, I did purchase a flash straight after this shoot however i’m not sure if I can se it with my Contax as there is a problem with my lens. The focusing is off. This will no doubt mess with using the flash because I will have to guess how far away from the subject I am. I will either have to get a more automatic Contax branded Flash, or I will have to learn my feet and meters by eye.
I may try the flash with my Contax. It could be a good way at learning how far away I am. The problem with using the flash at the moment is in the flash’s manual mode, you have to adjust settings on your camera depending on how far away you are. Camera lenses usually have guide numbers so normally if you focus on an object that is 5 feet away and the object is sharp at 5 feet away then the numbers on the lens will say that you are 5 feet away. You can then adjust your settings and you know the flash will give you the correct exposure however with my Contax, the focusing system is messed up. It will still focus but the guide numbers on the lens won’t actually add up to what’s correct which makes using the flash challenging to say the least.
